Mushrooms are a great way to get some extra protein into your diet, and they're also incredibly delicious. Did you know you can grow mushrooms at home with a mushroom growing kit? It's true! There are many different ways to grow mushrooms, but the easiest way is to use an oyster mushroom grow kit. This blog post will discuss the various methods of growing mushrooms at home and why an oyster mushroom grow kit is the best option for beginners.

Mushrooms are fungi, and there are many different species of mushrooms. The most common type of mushroom is the white button mushroom, but there are also oyster mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, and more. You can purchase mushroom growing kits for all these different mushrooms. However, we recommend starting with an oyster mushroom grow kit, as oyster mushrooms are the easiest to grow.

Mushroom growing kits often come with everything you need to get started, including a substrate (the material that the mushrooms will grow on), a culture/spawn (often referred to as spores ), and a container or bag. The first step is to sterilize the substrate. This is the essential part of the process and the easiest to get wrong. The substrate needs to be sterile so that we kill off anything else like yeasts, fungi spores and bacteria, which all like to flourish in moist, dark areas. The sterilization process can be done by boiling the substrate or using a pressure cooker. Either option will have to be cooked for at least 45 minutes. Once the substrate is sterilized, it's time to add the culture or spawn.

Using a liquid culture, mix and squirt it over the substrate. If you're using a spawn, mix it with the substrate before filling the bag. Once the culture is added, it's time to put the lid on the container or tie the bag and let the mushrooms grow! This stage is usually done in an incubation room, which is temperature controlled to 22 degrees Celsius and in a dark room. The mycelium loves to grow in the dark; think of it happening in nature; the mycelium grows under the ground or on the underside of fallen trees in the dark, very shady spots. The incubation process can take up to 3 months, depending on the type of mushroom you are growing.

Depending on the type of mushrooms you are growing, they may need more effort and tools to get started. For example, Shiitake mushrooms are often cultivated on logs, which are left outside in a shady place to grow for many years. The catch with this type of mushroom growing kit is that it takes at least 12 months before you see even one mushroom pop up. The patience part of this mushroom grows kit is what gets to most people. This is a more advanced way to cultivate, like the previous example of the typical mushroom growing kits available in some stores. This is not an option for most people, which is why we recommend an oyster mushroom grow kit as the best option for beginners.

Oyster mushrooms are a type of fungi that grows in clusters. They are often white or grey in colour and can have a slightly sweet taste. Oyster mushrooms are a good source of protein, fibre, and vitamins B and C. They can be used in many different dishes, including soups, stir-fries, and more. If you're looking for a mushroom growing kit that is easy to use and doesn't require much patience, an oyster mushroom grow kit is the best option for you.

Once you've got your mushroom growing kit, simply follow the instructions that come with it. In general, you'll need to mist the substrate with water a few times every day; simply place the kit in a room with indirect sunlight. Within a couple of weeks, you should see mushrooms starting to grow! At this stage, they can double in size every day. Once they reach maturity, you can harvest them and enjoy them. It really is that simple with our mushroom grow kits.

Mushroom growing kits are a great way to get started with growing your own food at home. They're easy to use and require minimal effort or knowledge to get started. If you're looking for a fun and rewarding gardening project, we recommend giving mushroom growing a try!
